The Dark Sword is already being mentioned in haunted whispers on the Dark Souls 3 subreddit as one of the most brutally overpowered weapons in the game. The Deep Battle Axe takes the early game of Dark Souls 3 from a living nightmare to a living slightly bad dream. It’s also quick, has a decent range, a varied moveset, and a great Weapon Art that provides you with a damage buff and lets you do a powerful charging combo with R2 while the buff is active. This bad boy has a Dark infusion on it already (something you can’t put on other weapons until later in the game) and it does a huge amount of damage already, split directly between physical and dark. Regardless of your method, you’re now the proud owner of the Deep Battle Axe. The fight will take a while at this point, but it’s worth doing. If it raises both arms, make sure you roll when it lunges, because that’s a grab move that will annihilate your health bar. Strafe around the twiggy horror with your shield up, and try to roll through its attacks. It’s a scary prospect, but it’s not so hard. If you have an Undead Hunter Charm, you can toss it at the Mimic to disable it, grab the axe and run, or, if you’re feeling brave, you can take it on. It’s a Mimic, meaning that if you try to open it, it will ruin your life and send you back to the bonfire in pieces, and probably in tears. Inside on the bottom floor is a chest, but be careful. To reach the tower, you’ll have to sprint between the dragon’s volleys of flame breath. It’s hidden away inside a Mimic chest in the tower beneath the dragon, just after the very first bonfire. Best of all, you can find it in the first real area of the game – the High Wall of Lothric.
